Bhubaneswar: Vehicular movement on busy street of Power chhak here came to a grinding halt for some time on Friday as members of BJP staged a road blockade demanding the arrest of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) mayor Ananta Narayan Jena for his alleged involvement in a sex tape which has gone viral on social networking sites.
Besides, the agitating members of the saffron party also attempted to gherao the police commissioner’s office here.
During their attempt to gherao the police commissioner’s office some BJP activists had a scuffle with the cops. Later, a team of delegates from BJP met police commissioner YB Khurania and submit a memorandum and the sex tape.
Besides, the members of the party also demanded to find out the person in the video clip and a probe into the death of student Rishi.
Golak Mohapatra, BJP spokesperson, said, “Police knows who are involved in the murder of student Rishi. But it is trying to safeguard the culprits. We demand the arrest and resignation of Bhubaneswar mayor.”
After assurance from police, the BJP workers withdraw their strike.
Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party has demanded a CBI probe into the incident.
Balaji Biswanath Mohanty, AAP leader, said, “Bhubaneswar mayor has tarnished the image of BJD. We demand his resignation from the mayor post until he proves himself not guilty. We will launch stir against the mayor if a CBI probe is not recommended into the matter.”
Reacting on the issue, Pratap Deb, BJD spokesperson, said, “We are examining the authenticity of the video. Besides, police has also started an investigation into the matter.”

In another development, students of Rama Devi Women’s university laid their support to the BMC mayor. The students of the varsity staged a road blockade demanding the arrest of Chhatra Congress President Itish Pradhan.
