Bhubaneswar: Even as a gruelling heat wave continued to grip most parts of interior Odisha today with temperature going up further in the coastal belt, the Met office has predicted that the state would witness severe heat wave condition for four days from April 22.

Talking to OTV, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, said the surface wind flow in coastal Odisha today was from south and south-south-west direction with a wind speed of 30-35 kmph.

“Though the wind flow was from the same direction at a height of 900 metres from the sea level previously, today the wind flow has changed its direction as it is blowing above 900 metres from the sea level from the north-west direction with a wind speed of about 35 kmph. Earlier, the wind was not moving up to the upper air. But today it has moved up to the upper air. Generally, if the wind flowing from the hot region moves up to the upper air it helps in the rise of temperature at a faster rate,” he said.

He further said as per the model indicator, severe heat wave condition will prevail in coastal and interior Odisha for two days on April 22 and 23 and April 24 and 25 respectively.

As per a Met release here this evening, Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state today with 47 degree Celsius while temperature went up to 40 degrees and above in 15 places. They were Chandbali (41.9), Bhubaneswar (40.3), Angul (45.1), Baripada (42.6), Jharsuguda (45.3), Keonjhar (44), Sambalpur (44.8), Sundergarh (45) Hirakud (45.6), Talcher (45.6), Bhawanipatna (45), Balangir (45), Phulbani (42.5), Sonepur (46.2) and Dhenkanal (44.3).
