Bhubaneswar: Seven transgenders have been arrested today for thrashing a Naga Baba in Khandagiri area of Bhubaneswar yesterday.
The matter had come to light after a video of the Kinnars assaulting the Baba was circulated. Following which a case was registered at the Khandagiri police station yesterday. However, no official complaint has been lodged yet in this regard.
Sources said that some Kinnars had entered into the ashram of the Baba in Ghatikia area during a police raid yesterday in the locality.
But after the Baba objected, the Kinnars abused him and left the place. Subsequently, more than 10 Kinnars barged into the Ashram, dragged the Baba on the road, stripped and thrashed him till police reached the spot and rescued him.
On the other hand, the transgenders have leveled allegations against the Baba stating that he misbehaved with them.
Meghna Sahu, secretary, All Odisha Kinnar Association yesterday alleged that the Baba physically assaulted a Kinnar which triggered the whole episode.
According to sources, the Baba has been opposing the Kinnars for their involvement in various ‘wrong’ activities.
