Malkangiri: As many as 33 tribal people of seven families have left their homes at Sanyasiguda village under Andrapalli panchayat in the cut-off region of the district due to threats of the Maoists.

According to reports, seven families deserted their homes on Saturday and sought shelter at Kudumulugumma police station after facing repeated threats by the Red Rebels.

“33 persons of seven families of Sanyasiguda village on Saturday deserted the village out of fear of Maoists. For the last one year, families have been deserting villages in the cut-off region out of fear of the Maoists. However, Maoists are losing support base in this area. Food and shelter have been arranged for the displaced persons. The district administration has been requested for their rehabilitation,” said Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.

These families have been provided with temporary accommodation at the Kudumulugumma block office, till arrangements are made for their rehabilitation, police added.

Notably, earlier, around 100 families had fled their homes in the cut-off region out of fear of Maoists.
