Puri: As sea waves continued to surge threatening to wash away the road near Swarga Dwar, the Hindu cremation ground in the pilgrim town, the spot has been red flagged by the administration restricting the entry of tourists.

Red flags have been put up in the sensitive areas by life guards, who have advised the tourists not to take bath near the spot.

Meanwhile, giving an update on the situation, Water Resources secretary Pradeep Jena said; “High tides are being experienced at Paradip and Puri. Sea waves have ingressed into the coast at three places. Urgent steps have been taken to tackle the situation in Puri and two senior engineers are inspecting the site. A master plan is being prepared to fill the eroded portions with sand. A technical team from IIT Madras will soon arrive in Puri. Based on its recommendation, steps will be taken.”
