Nuapada: Tension erupted in Nuapada after the roof of an under-construction staff quarters of the Sahajat Sevashram residential school collapsed here on Saturday. However, there were no reports of any casualties.

On getting information, Komana BDO, Project Director DRDA and local MLA Basanta Panda rushed to review the situation. While the administration remained clueless about the reason of collapse, sources claimed someone tinkering with the wooden ballies that were used in staging might have led to the incident.

Samiti member of Tarabod Panchayat, Damayanti Paradhan said," Someone must have dislodged the wooden ballies used in staging that supports centring and shuttering. As one side of the roof was found precariously hanging, the labourers intentionally pulled down the whole roof."

"As per primary inspection, only one roof has collapsed while roof of rest of the quarters have remained intact. May be that particular roof was weak otherwise all the staff quarters' roofs would have collapsed.  After a thorough inspection we can ascertain if there was any laxity from supervision point of view. Appropriate action will be taken against whoever is found responsible.” said DRDA Project Director, Brushav Chandra Nayak.

Meanwhile, local MLA and state BJP chief Basant Panda also demanded a high-level probe into the collapse and said appropriate legal action should be taken against persons involved in the incident.
