Bhubaneswar: A state level workshop and joint review meeting of Field Functionaries & Officers of School and Mass Education was organised here at the IDCOL Auditorium on Monday.

Presiding over the meeting, School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra said that private schools in the State are leading the government-run schools in quality education.

“Our chief aim is to impart quality education as it contributes to nation building. The BEOs (block education officers) and DEOs (district education officers) have a significant role in it. We’ve laid stress on inspections of schools. Each school should be inspected in a month and report to be submitted accordingly,” stated Patra.

The minister also gave priorities to distribution of text book, mid day meal, teachers’ and students’ attendance in schools.

While highlighting the performance of his department, the minister claimed that the literacy rate in Odisha rose to 72.87 percent in 2011 which is higher than the national average.

Besides, the Net Enrolment Ratio (NER) in primary education stood at 88.47% while dropout rate dipped to 4.68% in 2016-17.
