Cuttack: Health services at SCB Medical College and Hospital here have been greatly affected today as the post graduate students and house surgeons of premier health institute have staged a cease work demanding strict action against the attendant of a patient for allegedly attacking a doctor on duty.

The medicos have ceased work at casualty, emergency and ICU wards of the leading government hospital. They also lodged a complaint at Mangalabag police station on Monday regarding the incident.

Malati Mohanty, a patient from Jagatsinghpur was admitted to TB ward in the hospital. She died while undergoing treatment on Monday following which her relatives thrashed a junior doctor-Sameer Ranjan Behera- alleging negligence in treatment.

PG doctors’ association president Pritam Kar says “We demand immediate arrest of the accused and strict action against him as per Medical Protection Act. Besides, the security forces deployed in the hospital should be more empowered. A new rule should be formulated to check multiple attendants’entry into the ward”, Kar told OTV.

Reacting to query over health service, he said the House surgeons and junior doctors joined the work in many departments today. “We never want the health services be affected”, he added.
