Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear a petition moved by the Odisha government on the Mahanadi River water dispute today.

A three-judge bench including Chief Justice J S Khehar will hear the case on the inter-state river water dispute between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Earlier, on July 25, the Centre and both the state governments presented their sides in the court.

In its petition, Odisha had sought the apex court’s intervention to direct the Chhattisgarh government to halt barrage project work over Mahanadi in upstream areas and ask the Centre to form a tribunal under Sec-3 of the Inter-state River Water Disputes Act, 1956 to resolve the matter.
