Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court (SC) today served a notice to the Odisha government over payment of block grant teachers in the state.

In its notice, the apex court has sought a reply from the state government as to why block grant teachers will not be given full salary like that of the government college teachers. The court served the notice on the basis of the petitions filed by block grant teachers.

The next hearing on the matter will be held on October 27.

It may be mentioned here that the state government on September 2  had  abolished the block grant system in State and replaced with grant-in-aid system following a 17-day dharna by the teachers at the Lower PMG square here.
