Satyajeet wants to grow as a national-level singer

He has become a sensation in Odisha ever since he was seen on a national TV channel in the famous reality show- Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champ. His magic voice stole the hearts of jury members on stage on the day of his first audition in Mumbai and all of them unanimously pushed him to the second round. The video of his song- Mile Ho Tum Hamko- was appreciated by thousands of music lovers and went viral ever since it was uploaded in the social media. One can really feel the magic when he sings.

Satyajeet Jena, hailing from a small village-Tura- of Anandpur area in Keonjhar district, has won wider acclaim after performing on the stage of his father’s own orchestra group for past few years. A seventh standard student of Vivekananda Siksha Kendra, he has become the cynosure of all eyes when he was patted by national level big guns of music industry like Aditya Narayan, with three mentors including Himesh Reshammiya, Javed Ali and Neha Kakkar. In a candid tete-e-tete, he shared his journey with Dillip Kumar Pradhan.

Excerpts:

OTV: You have already reached a national level platform from State level competition. To whom you will give the credit for this success?

Satyajeet: My parents, who are my first song teachers, get the sole credits for my success. My father has been teaching me to sing for long and now a Hindustani and classical expert is coming from Bhadrak to teach me.

OTV: What reactions have you got from Odisha especially from your district Keonjhar after clicking the first round of the reality show?

Satyajeet: I have been receiving calls since I was seen on a national TV screen. Thousands of music lovers are wishing me regularly over phone and social media. This apart, I got around 1.5 million hits in the social media (Youtube) from all over the world.

OTV: Your sister is also a frontline singer and has made a name for herself in the orchestra. What prevents her to from taking part in the national competition like you? Is she preparing for the same?

Satyajeet: She has been singing since she was 14 years old. She has also participated in over a dozen State level reality shows. She was also among eight competitors from Odisha had taken part in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and acquired 14th rank at that time. She is trying to get on the national stage.

OTV: You are simultaneously pursing studies and singing. How can you manage time? Does your music come in the way of your studies?

Satyajeet: Yes, Sometimes my education is badly affected due to this passion. Still, I give extra time to recover the lost time. I secured around 90 per cent mark in school. My mother constantly teaches me and my sister along with other 11 students of our village.

OTV: What is your singing ambition?

Satyajeet: My aim is to become a national level singer and music director. I have started giving music direction on my own and composing songs. I upload these in Youtube and get positive response from music lovers.

OTV: What is your feeling after singing in front of national level popular musician, lyricist, and singers? What difference have you seen between the music industry here and in Mumbai.

Satyajeet: My confidence level has gone up after coming in contact with Mumbai artists as my mentors. I observed Mumbai is more technically sound than Odisha.

OTV: How can you maintain your health to make your voice euphoric? Especially, what kind of food generally you prefer to keep your tone sweet?

Satyajeet: Nothing special. I eat usual food. I do not know any special dishes for singing. However, my father prevents me to take ‘Pakhala’, pickle, cold drinks etc. I simply do gargling warm salt water just before the day of programme.

OTV: At last, but not least what will you say to Odia music lovers and your fans?

Satyajeet: I need their blessing and good wishes. I request all of them to saw me and listen to my songs and continue to inspire me. Without the blessing of seniors and good wishes of my fans, I can’t climb the ladder of success.
