Bhubaneswar: With Odisha’s injunction suit on Mahanadi row already rolled in the Supreme Court and poised for hearing, Mahanadi Banchao Andolan, a regional river conservation outfit is all set to intensify stir to protect the interest of Odisha vis-à-vis river water share by organising satyagraha from August 8.
"We are organising a satyagraha and stage dharna in front of the parliament from August 8 to 12. We have already held discussions with chiefs of all political parties in the state and they have assured full support to raise the issue," Mahanadi Banchao Andolan Convenor Sudarshan Das said.
As many as 200 representatives from all over Odisha along with 300 other social activists from the national capital will attend the five-day protest programme.
The activists will also will meet the President, Prime Minister and Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti during the satyagraha and apprise them on the water sharing dispute.
Earlier on Saturday, a team of delegates met Chief Minister and sought his support for the satyagraha. All MPs from the state have also been asked to raise the Mahanadi issue in the Parliament, discuss on the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act and push for enacting an appropriate law to resolve the issue permanently.
