Sarpanch attacked over political enmity in Athagarh

Athagarh: Sarpanch of Kandarpur panchayat under Athagarh police limits was attacked by four miscreants over alleged political rivalry on Friday night.

The incident occurred when the sarpanch identified as Paramananda Behera was travelling to Athagarh on a motorcycle. Four miscreants intercepted Paramananda and attacked him with cricket bat and wooden sticks.

The sarpanch alleged the attack was carried out by the candidate who lost to him during the panchayat elections last year.

“The miscreants thrashed me mercilessly with wooden sticks and cricket bat,” he added.

Paramananda was first rushed to Athagarh hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
