Sambalpur: The jailer of Sambalpur circle jail, from whose chamber Rs 18 lakh was recovered during a Vigilance raid on June 4, has been sent on a three-day Vigilance remand on Sunday.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge here today allowed the vigilance wing of Odisha Police to take the jailer, Sushant Rout, on a three-day remand for questioning.

"There are chances that Rout might manipulate documents if he stays at the Sambalpur Circle Jail. So, he would be sent to a different Jail; the Additional District and Sessions Judge will soon decide on it," said government lawyer Goura Mohan Dash

Earlier, Rout had stated that the seized amount was prisoners’ cash and advance for purchase of jail materials but he could not substantiate such claims during the probe.
