Rayagada: Passengers travelling in the Samaleshwari Express had a narrow escape after the train's engine derailed in Rayagada district today.

Sources said the first two wheels of the engine jumped the tracks and none of the bogies sustained any damage in the derailment.

The incident occurred near Keutaguda station when Samaleshwari Express was on its way to Jagdalpur from Howrah.

"By God's grace no casualty has been reported as only the first two wheels of the engine got derailed few kilometres away from Keutaguda Station," said Chief Public Relations Officer of East Coast Railway, Jyotiprakash Mishra.

Mishra further informed that no passenger has sustained any injuries in the mishap.

The loco-pilot of the train informed that the mishap might have occurred due to some 'technical glitches' in the track or engine.

"Though the incident has certainly caused some trouble to the passengers, a relief train has been despatched from Rayagada station at 6:20 PM to bring the bogies back to the station," said Mishra.

Senior East Coast Railway officials further informed that as it is a single-line track, there will be some delay in carrying out the rescue operation.
