Sam Pitroda named chairman of ‘Overseas Congress Department’

Bhubaneswar: Sam Pitroda, Technical Advisor to the Odisha government, has been appointed the chairman of the Overseas Congress Department of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

AICC’s general secretary Janardan Dwivedi today informed about the appointment in a press release.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the renaming of AICC ST Department as Adivasi Congress Department, constituting a Research Department and the creation of two new departments — Overseas Congress Department and Fishermen Department, added Dwivedi.

Earlier, Odisha BJP had demanded ouster of Pitroda from the post of Technical Advisor to the State government for his alleged involvement in the National Herald property grabbing case.

The saffron party had also alleged that Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik gave Pitroda a Cabinet Minister rank because of Pitroda’s closeness with the Gandhi family and acts as a bridge of link between BJD and Congress.
