Cuttack: The six-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and strangulated in Salepur of Cuttack district on April 21, today breathed her last while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital, informed the Medical Superintendent Shyama Kanungo.

The minor girl was under ventilator and being treated by a team of 13 doctors.

SCB emergency officer, Bhubanananda Moharana had on Thursday informed that her condition was critical and her chances of survival were little.

The girl, who suffered deep injuries in her head, face, neck, chest and private parts, was rescued from inside a school campus near her house in Jagannathpur village of Salepur on April 21 night. She was immediately rushed to a hospital in Salepur and later shifted to the SCB.

The family members alleged that the girl was raped and an attempt also made to kill her. Police had arrested an accused identified as Md Mustafa, on April 22 from the same village.

Meanwhile, family members of the girl demand that the accused should be hanged till death so that no one ever dares to commit such crime in future.

“He had lured my sister with chocolates and raped her. I demand that he should be hanged,” said the victim’s sister.

“My daughter could not breathe nor move her limbs. She had responded to the treatment only for a day. Stringent action should be taken against the accused,” demanded the victim’s father.

“The accused has been forwarded to court. After the death of the girl murder charges under section 302 of IPC will also be slapped against him,” said ASP, Cuttack (Rural), Krutibash Jena.

Meanwhile, expressing shock over the incident, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda tweeted,

Awful, awful. This was 1 of 2 instances of minors raped in my constituency last week. Sadly this yr alone has seen a *large* number of such gruesome attacks on minors in Odisha. In some other parts of the country too, but the surge that Odisha is seeing is truly disheartening.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also condoled the death of the minor girl and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family. He further announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for kin of the deceased.
