Cuttack: Twelve days after the death of the Salepur minor girl, who was raped; Police today filed the charge-sheet in Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Court in Cuttack.

According to sources, the charge-sheet has been prepared under Sections 376 (A), 376 (B), 302, 363 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.

The Salepur minor girl rape case is the first in Odisha after the Union Cabinet had cleared an ordinance last month to amend the POCSO Act awarding death penalty to those convicted of raping a child up to 12 years of age.

"This is how fast police should investigate & process ALL crimes, not just those heinous ones which get huge media coverage. How to make that happen? I analysed it thoroughly & wrote on it earlier this week in my @timesofindia OpEd," tweeted Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda.

The six-year-old girl from Salepur was rescued from a school campus near her house with deep injuries on her head, face, neck, chest and private parts on April 21. The girl was immediately rushed to a hospital in Salepur and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital where she breathed her last on April 29.

One Md Mustafa from the same village was arrested by the police for raping the girl.
