Puri: Concerns are now being expressed over the safety of devotees as the main gate also called as 'Lions gate' (Gumuta) of Sakhigopal temple in Puri district is in a dilapidated state.

Besides, other issues have also been detected by the Endowment Commissioner Biraja Prasad Datta during an on-spot assessment of the temple.

As per the findings, cracks have developed in the Gumuta which is likely to pose a threat for the devotees. The Gumuta needs to be replaced by a steel beam and the suggestions of State Archaeological Department may be taken for necessary action, stated Dutta in his report submitted to Odisha government.

The 'Rosa Ghar' or the kitchen looks like a nasty dungeon and directions have also been issued to the temple authorities to focus on cleanliness, informed sources.

As there are several encroachments inside the complex, adequate steps are also needed for eviction to provide easy passage to the devotees.

Several electric wires were also found hanging inside the temple premises while there is no 'hundi' or donation box rather a 'veta box' has been kept near the 'singhasan,' the report highlighted.
