Bhubaneswar: Commuters of Smart City Bhubaneswar may get ready for a smooth ride as Sachivalaya Marg will be redeveloped into an 'Urban Parkway' soon.

Eco-friendly road construction technology of using waste plastic in construction of the road will be adopted for carrying out the massive expansion of the road project.

As per plans, Sachivalaya Marg which is one of the prominent landmarks in the city is all set to go for a massive makeover with landscaping, greenery and public plazas and other necessary modern day amenities for the commuters.

Sources said, the entire stretch of road from Sachivalaya Marg, from Airport square to Acharya Vihar will undergo a massive transformation with adequate space for all users including pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles.

Dedicated play and activity zones, wider footpaths on both sides with lush green trees would be the key centre of attraction on the prominent route.

"Public Works department will undertake the redevelopment of the street, the design of which has been prepared by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in consultation with its Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Centre (BUKC)," said a senior official.

BDA officials informed that as per the plans, the entire stretch of road will be converted into six lanes from existing four lanes for ensuring smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

Special focus will be given to create dedicated service lanes near offices and other institutions so that there is no obstruction of main travel lane and minimizing the chances of accidents specially near such openings.

Apart from this, the connecting streets to Sachivalaya Marg -Udyan Marg, Rajpath, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Madhusudan Marg and Baya Baba road will also undergo redevelopment under the mega project.

Senior officials informed that urban facilities including vending zones, e-toilets, water ATMs, public plazas-cum- activity zones, information kiosks, directional signage, e-vehicle charging points and solar adaptive traffic signal control systems.

LED based street lighting, video surveillance systems and other various eco-friendly measures have also been included under the project keeping in view future needs of the people in a more realistic way.
