Puri: In what was a shocking sight to many devotees at the Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri, a Russian tourist was seen begging for alms at the temple's entrance.

The Russian, who calls himself as Radhe Govinda has reportedly been identified as Andrey Glagoliv.

On being asked, he said that he has no money for living and is asking for donation by doing 'bhajan.'

"I am a devotee of Lord Jagannath and love India. I stay at the railway platform. I have no money and for my everyday living, I need money. So, I do 'bhajan' and ask for donation," he said, adding that he came to Puri a couple of days ago after staying in the holy town of Vrindavan in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh for four years.

"I had a job in Mathura but I lost it three months ago. Since then, I have been staying & sleeping outside. In Vrindavan, its freezing cold so I came here; weather is good here," he added.

Being asked about his return to Russia, he said: "Going home is not possible; very danger (SIC)."

Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police (Puri) Jagannath Pradhan said the visa and passport of the Russian national will be checked and after proper investigation, the Russian Embassy will be informed.
