Rourkela: Three Government officials have been arrested by Vigilance for their alleged involvement in financial irregularities  in a road construction project in Sundergarh district.

The officials- Lathikata Block Development Officer (BDO) Purna Chandra Bhoi, assistant executive engineer Rajkishore Sahu and assistant engineer Budheswar Sahoo have been nabbed for embezzlement of around Rs 42 lakh.

The anti-corruption wing had conducted simultaneous raids on the residences of the three officials yesterday.

Sources said NSPCL Power Plant had granted Rs 1.32 crore to the local administration for construction of rural roads. However, the work was executed without inviting tender in 2017.

Following allegations,  Cuttack Vigilance Cell had started investigation into the matter. Basing on preliminary investigation and concrete evidence of corruption in the road construction work, the anti-corruption wing had conducted raids and arrested the trio today.
