Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested Tripura-cadre Odia IPS officer Joydeep Nayak from Ghaziabad. Nayak was suspended from service for his alleged involvement in siphoning off Rs 88 lakh meant for computer education of SC/ST students and self help groups (SHGs) in Odisha. while he was on deputation in the Human Rights Portection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police.

Informing about the development, Vigilance director RP Sharma said, “Nayak is being brought to Odisha on transit remand.”

After he was produced in the Ghaziabad chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court, which allowed Odisha vigilance to take Nayak on a four-day remand.

On July 6, the Tripura government had suspended the 1991-batch IPS officer for breaching service rules. Nayak, who was posted as Director, in Fire Service department in Tripura, was later transferred as OSD to State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD).

The Tripura government initiated action against the official after the Odisha Vigilance department wrote to the former regarding the non-appearance of the officer despite notices sent to him.

To evade arrest, Joydeep had filed an anticipatory bail application in the High Court on June 27.
