Bhubaneswar:  School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra today said model schools would be opened in every block across the state in phased manner.

During the Question Hour on the last day of the Assembly Monsoon Session, he informed that Rs 2628.51 crore has been earmarked for infrastructures of the model schools in five years and the corporate sector of the state has evinced interest for construction of the schools, he added.

“The Tata company will set up 30 model schools while the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and the JSPL will construct 25 and 10 schools, respectively, in the state,” said the Minister.

On the other hand, the Opposition alleged that there have been large scale irregularities in the schools meant for disabled persons. It is alleged that there is lack of infrastructures, poor quality teaching and corruption in the schools. Congress MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria demanded that schools for the differently-abled be established in Odisha similar to the Karnataka model.

Meanwhile, the House was adjourned for 30 minutes following Opposition creating ruckus over the Polavaram issue.  A total of seven bills, including the BPUT Amendment Bill, are scheduled to be tabled in the House.
