Bhubaneswar: In yet another instance of gold smuggling through the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) on Wednesday seized gold bars & rings weighing 378.370 grams from two passengers.

The officials of Air Intelligence unit of the Commissionerate of Customs seized three gold bars and 143 gold rings from the two passengers who had arrived in Bhubaneswar in an AirAsia flight from Bangkok.

The flight had arrived at Bhubaneswar airport via Kuala Lumpur.

Senior officials informed that the two passengers, who hail from Thane in Maharashtra, had concealed the gold bars in their rectum while 143 gold rings of foreign origin were hidden inside the buttons of their clothes in the luggage.

Earlier on March 6, acting on spot intelligence, the customs officials had intercepted a passenger from Thane and seized 600 grams of gold bars valued at Rs 19.12 lakhs.
