Angul: In daring robbery, three unidentified goons looted Rs 12.60 lakh in cash from two employees of a petrol pump at Chendipada area here on Monday.

According to sources, the incident took place when Basant Kumar Majhi and Rajendra Kumar Agarwal, two employees of a petrol pump located at Gopinathpur, were going to State Bank of India (SBI)’s Chendipada branch to deposit the cash.

On their way to the bank, three unidentified miscreants overpowered them, thrashed them mercilessly and decamped with the cash, the sources added.

Arun Kumar Sahoo, manager of the petrol pump, said, “Rajendra Kumar Agarwal was driving and Ramesh Kumar Majhi was sitting on the back seat. The miscreants pulled Majhi from the bike and thrashed them mercilessly. Later they decamped with the cash.”

Meanwhile, police have detained two workers of the petrol pump and are interrogating them to ascertain whether or not any employee of the pump is involved in the loot.

Diptikanta Pradhan, IIC of Chendipada police station, said, “Three unidentified bike-borne miscreants looted Rs 12.60 lakh cash from the two petrol pump employees while they were on their way to the Chendipada SBI branch. Investigation into the matter is on.”
