Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today sanctioned Rs 1000 crore for road construction and drinking water facilities in rural areas under Gopabandhu Grameen Yojana.

Patnaik has asked the Panchayati Raj department to spend the said amount by March 31, minister Arun Sahoo said.

Funds were spent under the scheme on the head of road construction, water and electricity in 10 districts. The Centre used to sanction funds BRGF for the same purpose in 20 districts. However, the Gopabandhu Grameen Yojana has been extended to 30 districts after the Centre stopped funds for the welfare projects.
