Dhenkanal: In yet another major bank robbery incident, some miscreants looted Rs 1.15 crore from the Odisha Gramya Bank, Dhenkanal branch here late on Sunday night.

Sources said, the robbers entered into the bank by breaking the locks and later decamped with Rs 1, 15, 50, 000. The incident came to the fore when the bank staff opened the bank this morning. Bank officials said the entire stolen cash was of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. People had deposited all those cash in the bank after the demonetisation move, said branch manager Nabakishore Sahu.

“There was Rs 8. 85 crore in total three boxes (around Rs 3crore in each box) in the bank. But surprisingly, the miscreants have stolen Rs 90 thousands from a box leaving the rest around Rs 2 crore intact. Total Rs 1, 15, 50, 000 has been stolen by the robbers,” said Dhenkanal SP Basant Kumar Panigrahi.

“We have got the CCTV footage. Investigation is on into the matter with the help of a scientific team,” he added.
