Rourkela: Chhend police claimed to have cracked the mystery behind the double murder of Istar Lenka and her niece Madhusmita Sahu and nabbed Istar's second husband Braja Sundar Sahu in connection with the case.

As per reports, Braja, who lived in Istar's house, had killed the duo on September 26 night over property dispute and family quarrel.

"As he was regularly denied a share in Istar's property, the gap in the family increased, and he killed his wife and niece over the issue. All three of them were sleeping in a room in Istar's Kalinga Vihar house when at around 12 midnight he killed the two using an iron rod and knife," said Chhend Police Station IIC, AK Biswal.

Braja in a similar statement has said that he was snubbed by Istar regularly and her niece used to support her therefore he killed both of them. "I had told her that she was disturbing my mental peace. I told her if she would give me half of her property, I would leave. As she did not pay any heed to my demand I killed her with an iron rod and fled from the spot," said Braja.

The bodies of Istar and Madhusmita had been found under mysterious conditions in the  locked house in Chhend Colony here on September 27.

Sources said the door of the house was locked from inside while the window was found broken. Istar, a teacher, had been in a relationship with Braja after her husband’s death.
