Bhubaneswar: Trinamool MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay was taken on a six-day remand by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) here on Wednesday for further interrogation in the Rose Valley chit fund scam case.
The CBI had asked for a 12-day remand from the Special CJM court. He was produced at the CBI-designated special court amid tight security after his medical examination at the Capital Hospital. Following the court order, his party activists staged a demonstration in front of the CBI office here.
During the remand period, the central investigating agency will enquire about links of other persons in the chit fund scam. Sudip is likely to be interrogated along with actor-turned-politician Tapas Paul. The CBI will also question on the politicians and ministers benefitted by these two TMC MPs and to what extent they have benefitted the chit fund firm by misusing their power. Since Sudip’s wife is a MLA in West Bengal, the investigating officials will also find out if she has any links with the chit fund scam.
The Rose Valley chit fund company has duped people of more than Rs 450 crore in Odisha. Hence, the company’s operation in Odisha will also come under the purview of investigation.
Bandyopadhyay, also the TMC parliamentary party leader in the Lok Sabha, was the second party MP after Tapas Pal to be arrested by the CBI in a span of five days.
