Revenue clerks put stir on hold after govt assurance

Bhubaneswar: Clerical staff of Odisha Revenue department put their agitation on hold today following government assurance to look into their demands.

The clerks have been protesting under the banner of Odisha Rajashwa Amala Sangha (ORAS) since August 11 demanding fulfilment of nine-point charter of demands which includes pay hike and abolition of contractual recruitment.

Moreover, the agitating employees have been demanding a change to the minimum qualification of clerks to graduation along with special cadre status.

The State-wide stir of ORAS had affected essential services like registration and issue of land records, preparation of bills for contract works, marriage registration, maintenance of revenue and tax records and issuance of various miscellaneous certificates among others.

More than 18,000 such employees are working at District Collector and Tehsildar offices across the State.
