Rengali dam displaced block NH-49; vehicular movement hit

Deogarh: Vehicular traffic on NH-49 was disrupted today due to a road blockade agitation by oustees of Rengali dam at Barkote and Thianala over three-point charter of demands.

The agitators under the aegis of Rengali Basachyuta Surakhya Samiti have been sitting on a 12-hr dharna on NH-49 since 7 am.

They want a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for displaced and a permanent rehabilitation of the villagers whose land have been acquired.

Netra Nanda Samal, president, Rengali Basachyuta Surakhya Samiti, said, “We will intensify our stir if the demands are not met at the earliest.”

Though local tehsildar and police reached the spot to pacify the agitators, the dharna is on as per the latest reports.
