Bhubaneswar: The last date for applying for submission of application forms for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-2017 examination has been extended to January 16 next year.

Earlier, the last date for submission of the application form was January 2. The last date to pay the fee has also been extended to January 17. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) authorities said the last date was changed as per the request by the Odisha government. So far, 33,660 candidates have applied for the exam.

Notably, taking note of the difficulties faced by candidates in online registration for the examination due to mandatory of Aadhaar card at the time of registration, the state government had wrote a letter to CBSE chairperson Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi on December 24 requesting him to extend the last date for submission of application forms to January 20.

In the letter, commissioner-cum-secretary, Skill Development and Technical Education, Sanjay Kumar Singh had mentioned that the online registration for the test is very poor compared to the previous years due to mandatory validation of Aadhaar number for the JEE Main candidates.

Later on December 26, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi had requested the HRD Ministry to extend the last date for submission of application form for JEE Main exam to Jan 20
