Ganjam: Police on Thursday detained one person for attacking Birendra Arukh, brother of Rural Development and Cooperation Minister Bikram Arukh, here at Gochhabadi square late on Wednesday night.

As per sources, Birendra who is the president of Aska Central Cooperative Bank was injured in the head while the assailant also attacked his vehicle with an iron rod when he was returning after finishing his bank work from Jagannath Prasad area.

“While I was returning from bank, suddenly a person stopped us and attacked the front glass of my vehicle by means of an iron rod. I received a head injury since I was sitting on the front. But fortunately I had some of my colleagues with me who helped me to Bhanjanagar hospital” Birendra told media persons.

On the other hand, BJP has strongly protested the detention of the prime accused Raju Pradhan. Hundreds of party workers staged a road blockade at Gochhabadi demanding arrest of Birendra.
