Rape convict absconds from Nayagarh sub-jail

Nayagarh: A rape convict serving jail term in Nayagarh Sub-jail escaped from the prison late on Monday night. The prisoner has been identified as Sourabh Kumar Bisoi alias Pupun, a resident of Bada Tangi Patna Sahi under Itamati police station in Nayagarh district.

Nayagarh SP and Sadar police station IIC rushed to the spot and examined the CCTV footage at the jail. The cops also seized a mobile phone from the spot.

It is suspected that some jail staff are involved in the escape of the rape convict. However, Upendra Kumar Jena, the assistant jailer of the sub-jail refused to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile, Jena has lodged a complaint with the Nayagarh Sadar police station in this connection.

“On the basis of report filed by the assistant jailer, we have registered a complaint under Section-224 14/18 of the IPC. We have also verified the CCTV footage and seized a mobile phone from the jail. Investigation is on,” said Sadar police station IIC Manorama Mallick
