Bhubaneswar: Odisha CID Crime Branch on Wednesday took over the WannaCry Ransomware attack in Berhampur City hospital, the first instance of the latest cyber attack to be reported in the state.

A three member team of Cyber Crime Police Station has been formed to investigate the case, informed Special Director General of Police (Crime Branch) B.K. Sharma in a tweet.

Sharma further informed that the team would take up the probe from Berhampur Town Police which had initially registered the case after the attack on Monday.

Official sources said, the attack has encrypted the data of e-Aushadhi portal and Hospital Information Management System (HMIS).

Earlier,  the Crime Branch on May 15 had issued an advisory on WannaCry Ransomware attack and possible measures that internet users need to follow as a preventive measure.

The advisory has been uploaded on official website of Odisha Police, www.odishapolicecidcb.gov.in.

As per the guidelines, an internet user needs to keep Anti Ransomware and Antivirus software up-to-date, keeping real time protection and auto update feature in active mode.

Besides, the internet users also need to update their operating systems to Windows 10 and others they can click on the link: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms17-010.aspx released by Miscrosoft to update.
