Berhampur: Police on Monday produced former Sanakhemundi Congress MLA Ramesh Jena in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Purusottampur in Ganjam district.

Jena was taken from Berhampur Circle Jail amid tight security.

Talking to media persons, IIC of Purusottampur police station, Bijay Kumar Behera said police had registered a case no- 25/2016 against Jena, Krupasindhu Muduli and six others on the charge of extortion.

“After producing Jena in the JMFC court, police took him again to Berhampur Circle Jail,” he said, adding Purusottampur police will appeal to the JMFC Court, Purusottampur to take him on remand for interrogation in the case.

The Congress MLA did not say anything to the media while being taken away from Berhampur Circle Jail.
