Bhubaneswar: The long standing demand of Odisha is going to be fulfilled shortly as Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express via Sambalpur is all set to commence soon.

Railway Minsiter Piyush Goyal in a letter to Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan confirmed that a new Rajdhani Express (Train No.22811/22812) via Sambalpur once a week will start running shortly.

“I am happy to inform that in deference to your request, we shall shortly start running Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express via Sambalpur once a week,” said Goyal in his letter.

According to sources, the new route, which has been mooted for benefit of the people of western Odisha, will have stoppages in Dhenkanal, Angul, Talcher, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Rourkela.

Earlier, Goyal had made the announcement of a new Rajdhani via Sambalpur after meeting Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in New Delhi on September 28.

Patnaik had also urged Goyal for introduction of Buxi Jagabandhu Express from Khurda Road to Mumbai via Sambalpur and extend Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express to Nayagarh town.

Odisha had also pressed for speeding up various railway projects and commencement of the work on Jeypore-Nabarangpur and Jeypore-Malkangiri lines, new linking between Puri and Konark and redevelopment of 11 railway stations.
