Rajarani Music Festival: Evenings that floated to tunes of classical music

Bhubaneswar: Music in many raagas within the pristine precincts of Rajarani Temple captivated music lovers from world over at the three-day Rajarani Music Festival in Bhubaneswar that concludes today.

"The objective is to promote our classical music. Many well-known musicians from all over world want to come here to perform. Enjoying music in this  ambience is the major attraction for the tourists," said Chief Executive of GKCM Odissi Research Centre Sangeeta Gosain.

In the inaugural evening Odia musicians Ramesh Chandra Das played violin while Srinibas Satapathy enthralled the audience with his flute in the first 'Jugalbandi' performance. However, singer Sanjay Subramanyan's soothing Carnatic vocal was the major attraction of the evening.

"This is an important musical event of international standard in our state and I am very happy to get a chance to perform here. Young musicians and our students will get more encouraged after seeing us perform here," said musician Ramesh Chandra Das.

Matruprasad Das and Himansu Sekhar Swain's Odissi vocal and Viku Vnayakram's Ghattam entertained the gathering in the second evening of the festival. Ganesh and Kumaresh' violin performance and Hindustani vocal by Sanjiv Abhyankar is expected to draw more audience on the final day today.

The motive behind this annual event of Odisha Tourism is to promote the art and architecture of the state along with Indian classical music.
