Bhubaneswar: Judo coach Biranchi Das murder convict Sandeep (Raja) Acharya went on parole to attend his mother’s death anniversary on Wednesday after the Orissa High Court accepted his plea.

Acharya was directed to depose before the police on April 21. He had also gone on parole at the time of the death of his mother.

Acharya is serving a life term at the Jharpada Special Jail in the Capital city since 2010 when a Bhubaneswar fast-track court convicted him for killing Das in April 2008 and sentenced him to a life in prison.

Notably, the judo coach was shot dead in Bhubaneswar on April 13, 2008, at his judo training centre premises here by two unidentified armed men.

Later Acharya’s associate Chagala had confessed to the crime in April 2008 whereas Acharya surrendered before the Goa police at Panaji on May 5, 2008.
