Bhubaneswar: At a time when people are all set to usher in New Year amidst  much fanfare with family and friends, rain is likely to play a spoilsport.

As per the latest forecast of the Regional Meteorological Department, rain is likely to occur at several parts of interior and coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours.

"Some parts of the State are likely to experience rain on December 31 and January 1, 2018. But the amount of rain would be meagre," said director of Regional Meteorological Department," Sarat Chandra Sahoo.

Meanwhile, intense cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in Odisha with further drop in temperatures from January 2, 2018.

Already, normal life in several parts of the State has been adversely hit due to intense cold wave conditions with Phulbani recording a lowest minimum temperature of 4.5 degrees Celsius on Friday.

According to reports, eight districts including Sonepur, Angul, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Bolangir and Koraput have recorded temperatures below 10 degree Celsius yesterday.
