Bhubaneswar: The festivities on the occasion of Mahashtami were affected due to the heavy rains that lashed several parts of Odisha on Thursday.

As the revelers mostly prefer to visit puja pandals during the day time to avoid the rush during evening hours, the rains in the afternoon in Puri affected the visitors’ turnout.

“There was waterlogging near Market chhak and it caused problems for us in reaching the mandaps. However, braving the rain and other difficulties, we came here to offer prayer to the goddess,” said Amaresh Sahu, a visitor.

The turnout of visitors at puja pandals in Bhubaneswar dropped considerably following the rains that lashed the city at around 1 pm today.

“Though we faced problems due to the rains, we somehow managed to visit the pandals to seek blessings of the goddess Durga,” said Kailash Dash, a pandal hopper.

Dash said that the most of the significant rituals including arati and others were being conducted on the occassion of Mahashtami when the city witnessed the downpour.
