Jeypore: Uncertainty looms large over the railway construction works between Jeypore-Malkangiri and Jeypore-Nabarangpur as the final survey work has not yet been completed. This, despite the fact that the new projects were announced two years ago.

Sumit Rout, a Law student from Kalahandi, accessing information through Right to Information (RTI) has revealed that the final survey of the Rail location for the projects is pending though the projects were approved in  2105-16.

“Without the final location survey it is impossible to construct a Railway station. Just like the previous year administration will fail to utilise the sanctioned amount again,” Rout said.

As per the RTI information, the Reconnaissance Engineering-cum-Traffic (RET) and Preliminary Engineer-Cum-Traffic (PET) works are completed but the final location survey is pending.

Talking about the delayed work, BJD MLA of Nabarangpur, Balabhdra Majhi said inconsistency in Railway Administration is the reason of the unnecessary delay in the projects. He said, “This project is for the socio-economic development of the backward areas of the State by the State government. They (Railway Administration) are unnecessarily delaying the works.”

According to reports, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of 130 KM long Jeypore-Malkangiri railway project with a sanctioned budget value worth RS 1277 core was approved in November 2016.

Similarly, the DPR of 38 KM long Jeypore-Nabarangpur railway project with a sanctioned budget of Rs 485 core was approved in October 2016.
