Rourkela: With resentment brewing among people across Odisha, students of several schools and colleges took out a rally in Rourkela seeking justice for Shreyas Kesharwani, who died allegedly due to ragging by friends at a college in Visakhapatnam.

Holding placards in hands, the students staged a silent protest and demanded a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to unravel the mystery behind Shreyas’ death.

"The college administration and three students are responsible for the death of Shreyas. So far no action has been taken against them," said Shreyas’ uncle, Ashish Kesharwani.

Ashish further informed that the family has submitted a memorandum to the district administration. We have faith on police but as more investigation is needed, we are demanding a CBI probe.

It may be recalled that Shreyas of Sambalpur had died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on January 6, 2018  after he was allegedly assaulted and physically tortured by three to four students of Sri Chaintanya College in Visakhapatnam in December last year.

The post mortem report had also revealed internal injuries to the heart of Shreyas prior to death.

A team from PM Palem police station in Vizag is investigating the matter and had earlier questioned few doctors who had treated Shreyas while he was admitted to a hospital in Bhubaneswar last week.

The family of the deceased student had recently met Union Minister Jual Oram to press for a high level inquiry into the incident.

"The matter will be taken up seriously with senior authorities of Government of India and action will be taken against those found guilty," said Oram.
