Sambalpur: A team of Sambalpur police today left for Vishakhapatnam to collect information on the death of an Odia student of Sri Chaitanya Junior College in Marikavalasa after alleged ragging by hostel inmates.

The family members of the deceased lodged a complaint at the Gadaposa police outpost here two days ago. Meanwhile, the PM Palem police has begun probe into the incident.

The student, Shreyas Kesharwani, was allegedly ragged by his friends at the college hostel a few days ago. The family members alleged that he was beaten up by three to four students after which he sustained critical injuries. Since the college authorities did not take any step even after his family members brought the matter to their notice, the latter brought Shreyas back to home.

He was admitted to a hospital in Rourkela for treatment and later shifted to Bhubaneswar. Shreyas died while undergoing treatment at the hospital last Saturday.
