Bhubaneswar: Odia student Shreyas Kesharwani had suffered injuries to heart resulting in his death, revealed post mortem report that was submitted to the team of Visakhapatnam police by Capital Hospital authorities on Friday.

The startling revelation could now possibly act as a major piece of evidence and change the course of investigation into the death of Shreyas due to alleged ragging by friends at a college in Visakhapatnam.

Director of Capital Hospital, Chitaranjan Kar informed that the post mortem report clearly states that there was heart contusion and pulmonary embolism prior to Shreyas’ death.

"As per the findings from the autopsy, there were internal injuries to the heart of the deceased. The report has been submitted to police for necessary action," said Kar.

"After questioning the doctors at the private hospital, we have found that the student died of some heart problems and the matter is now under investigation," said investigating officer Laxman Murthy of PM Palem police station in Visakhapatnam.

Shreyas, who was studying in Sri Chaitanya College in Visakhapatnam, was allegedly beaten up by senior students in hostel in December last year. He was admitted to a hospital in Rourkela for treatment and later shifted to Bhubaneswar. Shreyas died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on January 6.

Family members alleged that Shreyas had revealed that he was brutally beaten up by three to four students of the same college inside the hostel.

Though he had brought the matter to the notice of the authorities, no action was taken in this regard.

Following the incident, locals had observed bandh at Shreyas’ native place in Garposh area of Sambalpur demanding stern action against the students involved in the incident.
