Angul: In an exemplary and successful attempt in handling emergency situations, personnel of Odisha Fire Services rescued the minor girl, who had fallen into a borewell in Angul district, alive after an intense rescue operation that lasted for several hours on Monday.

 

Lauding the efforts, Fire Services DG BK Sharma informed that fire personnel from Bamur and Angul carried out the rescue operations successfully.

“A parallel hole of 15/16ft depth was dug nearly 6ft away fm the borewell hole. Then a tunnel was dug to connect to the bore well,” said Sharma in a Tweet.

Sharma further wrote that after opening the tunnel, a fireman reached the spot and rescued the 3-year-old minor girl, who has been rushed to Angul hospital.

Earlier, Santosh Sahu’s 3-year-old daughter Radha had fallen into the borewell at Gulasar village under Handapa police limits in Angul district while she was playing at around 9 am today.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also lauded the efforts of firemen, district administration, police, ODRAF for the successful rescue of Radha from borewell. "The could be achieved by excellent team work. Acts like these inspire public confidence in government machinery," wrote Patnaik in a Tweet further praying for the little one's speedy recovery.

This incident has reminded people of the rescue of 5-year-old Prince, who had also fallen under similar circumstances into a borewell at Hardaheri village in Kurukshetra in July 2006.

However, the entire rescue operation had then lasted for nearly 48 hours.
