Puri king terms Jayee Rajguru as first martyr, dislikes differences in opinion

Bhubaneswar: Jayee Rajguru is the first martyr in the freedom movement in Odisha and the ongoing debate and differences in opinion on him should come to an end, said Gajapati Maharaja of Puri Divya Singh Deb here on Tuesday at a book unveiling programme.

Multiple opinions may be a common phenomenon during the time of British rule in Odisha, but now the scenario has changed and there should be a consensus on Paika Rebellion and Jayee Rajguru, he said  while unveiling the book-'Jayee Rajguru And Anti Colonial Resistance in Khurda' written by Bijay Chandra Rath.

In 1804, Jayee Rajguru had led the Paika Rebellion which is said to be the first war of Independence in Odisha. Odias should stand by it, he said while addressing a gathering.
