Bhubaneswar: War of words has ensued between BJP national secretary Suresh Pujari and suspended party leader Jayanarayan Mishra over attack on the BJP State unit vice president Samir Mohanty during the Zilla Parishad chairperson election in Sambalpur on March 12.
Pujari said the attack on Mohanty, who was also a party observer in the ZP chairperson election, is shameful and an example of lack of discipline.
“Disobeying the party order is akin to acting against the interest of the party. Moreover, attacking the party observer is a crime,” the BJP national secretary added.

Meanwhile, calling Pujari as a ‘conspirator’, Jayanarayan stated, “His comments saying that there has been no conspiracy existing in BJP is untrue. From the day Pujari joined the party, I find him to be conspiring against someone or the other.”
Taking a jibe at Pujari, Jayanarayan said, “While Suresh Pujari is a national-level leader, why he is trying to become a district leader?”
Notably, on March 12, two groups of the party’s district unit got involved in a fight dissatisfied over the decision of the leadership regarding the nomination of party candidate in the ZP chairperson election in Sambalpur.
In the process, party vice president and observer Samir Mohanty was attacked. Some of them even burnt party flags and shouted ant-party slogans.
Following the incident, local leader Jayanarayan openly criticised Pujari while holding the national secretary responsible for the attack on Mohanty.
The party’s State chief Basant Panda later suspended Jayanarayan along with 10 district members and elected zilla parishad chairperson Nauri Nayak for six years.
