Berhampur: Not only the BJP Yuva Morcha is agitating here against the decision of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) to hike the electricity tariff, general public were also seen today demanding reversal in the decision of the commission.

“The current power tariff is already hurting the electricity consumers and the increase in the tariff will hurt them more. The government should first collect the electricity bills lying pending near various companies. Hiking the price in current circumstances is not acceptable,” said one citizen of Chhatrapur in Ganjam district.

Expressing similar views many denizens opined that government should take immediate action towards the reversal of the hike. They also demanded that the issue should be raised in the Odisha Assembly and collection of pending electricity bills, amounting to some crores of rupees, near various industries could solve the issue.

People also questioned that if the tariff is hiked who will understand the problems faced by farmers, general public and poor people. They demanded that the tariff hike decision should be reversed, the hike should be checked.

Notably, the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) had yesterday hiked electricity tariffs by an average of 1.44 percent.
